Wellington, FL (September 4, 2015) — “The fine line between good and great is paying attention to your horses,” says Vita Flex Victory Team show jumper Todd Minikus, winner of more than 130 Grand Prix titles. For Minikus, staying ahead of the competition means being hyperaware of his horses’ health and wellbeing at all times. “I like to be hands on so that I can get a real feel for what is going on with them,” explains the 2007 U.S. Pan American Bronze Medal Team rider, who competes regularly while training horses from green to Grand Prix. Always conscientious of each of his horses’ particular nutritional and dietary needs, Minikus uses top-quality supplements from Vita Flex to provide the right mix of minerals, proteins, and vitamins to keep his equine partners in winning condition.
The champion show jumper is in the midst of another immensely successful year, having just completed yet another victorious week at the 40th annual Hampton Classic Horse Show in Bridgehampton, New York, on August 26-30. Competing on several different horses, Minikus finished first in the $10,000 Wollfer Estate 1.4m on the Oldenburg gelding Cordonos, owned by Matthew Degrande. Minikus was second in the $250,000 Hampton Classic Grand Prix on Babalou 41, Two Swans Farm’s champion mare and Minikus’ traveling reserve partner for the 2015 U.S. Pan American Games Jumping Team. He took reserve in the $20,000 Royalton Farms Jumper Challenge with his new mount, eleven-year-old KWPN gelding Paratrooper, owned by Lori Custer. This was Minikus’s second competition with Paratrooper, with whom he had two top ten finishes the week prior at the Princeton Show Jumping competition despite having first ridden Paratrooper only a week before the show.
At Princeton Show Jumping in Skillman, New Jersey, earlier in August, Minikus placed second on Cordonos and third on Quality Girl— owned by the 2014 USHJA Owner of the Year, The Quality Group— in the $30,000 Grand Prix of Princeton.
Minikus used the Princeton and Hampton shows as a warm-up for Quality Girl, gearing up for the Canadian Pacific $1 Million FEI CSI5* Grand Prix at the HITS-on-the-Hudson VIII in Saugerties, New York, on September 2-6. He and Quality Girl, his twelve-year-old Oldenburg partner of three years, claimed the million-dollar title in 2014. The pair will defend their title and compete for the $300,000 first place prize against a field of 50 extremely talented horse and rider pairs. In addition to Quality Girl, Minikus is planning to show Plum Creek Hollow Farm’s twelve-year-old Westphalian stallion, Con Capilot, at HITS’ richest FEI show jumping division event of the summer.
Minikus is also currently preparing for the Spruce Meadows Masters CSIO5* Nations Cup, at which he will represent the United States as part of the Nations Cup team. The tournament will be held September 9-13 in Calgary, Alberta, Canada. Immediately following, Minikus will compete at the American Gold Cup, World Cup Qualifier, to be held on September 14 at Old Salem Farm, New York. Also just around the corner is the September 24-26 Central Park Horse Show, in New York, New York. In October, Minikus plans to compete in the Washington International Horse Show (WIHS) on October 20-25.
With so many upcoming competitions, it’s important for Minikus to keep all of his horses in perfect form. “Vita Flex helps me keep my horses in tip-top condition and makes sure that we keep American show jumping in the winner’s circle,” he said. “The management of the horse is the most important thing.” A particular favorite for Minikus is Master’s Hoof Blend™ (formerly HT 20®), a hoof health formula which also supplies a six-culture microbial complex to support digestion, chelated trace minerals, and methionine and lysine, essential for optimum biotin function. Vita Flex is excited to cheer Minikus on as he continues to tour North America’s most prestigious jumping competitions.
